PRIDE Travel Attends San Diego Trade Show, Answers Common Consumer Questions

Pride TravelPRIDE Travel executives S. Nathan DePetris and Marc R. Kassouf wrap up their attendance of the OSSN travel trade show in San Diego last week, including a pre-show ‘refresher’ stay designed to reintroduce San Diego’s attractions and highlights to attendees so that agencies can better serve clients with fresh information and first hand know-how. Mr. Kassouf and Mr. DePetris visited the world-famous San Diego Zoo, SeaWorld, and had the opportunity to step aboard the SS Midway museum the weekend leading up to the tradeshow.

Although not members of the Outside Sales Support Network, OSSN, Kassouf and DePetris received invitations to visit the conference and show which presented a great opportunity to reconnect with industry partners and perhaps learn something new. The conference and tradeshow offered seminars on subjects ranging from sales and marketing tactics, technology innovations, to specific products and services appealing to all segments of the travel industry. PRIDE Travel Continues Support Of Thailand Travel, Remembers Lessons Learned Last Year

PRIDE Travel, a full service travel agency focusing on the GLBT or Gay and Lesbian travel segment, announced it will continue to sell travel packages and customized individual travel to Thailand, even after recent escalation of violence between the government and opposition.

Amazing_Thailand_logoTwo days before the news broke about escalating violence in Thailand’s capital city of Bangkok, PRIDE Travel owner Marc R. Kassouf was putting the finishing touches on a premier ad to launch the new marketing campaign in San Francisco’s theatre district. By many accounts, a resolution to mounting tension was being reached in negotiations with incumbent government officials and the demonstrating “Red Shirt Army” opposition movement. The advertisement, a full color page featuring a Thailand Gay Group with multiple departures throughout the end of 2010 and beyond, was to be PRIDE Travel’s debut into the San Francisco market in print advertising and is slated to run for four weeks in May and June. What better product to feature, thought Kassouf, than a customizable program to the Land of Smiles, where warm gracious hospitality sets the bar for the world to follow, and a destination that has been welcoming the gay traveler warmly for decades. But, when the news two days later reported the death and purported assassination of one of the opposition movement’s key figure, PRIDE Travel’s management was faced with several difficult decisions.

Some travelers shun hotels for cruises, vacation rentals

By Christopher Reynolds
Los Angeles Times

The next time you see a hotel manager striding across the lobby with furrowed brow, look again. He may not be worrying about the guy in room 415, the group in the banquet room, or even the recession that has driven room rates to their lowest levels in years.

Instead, he might be thinking about the likes of Carlos A. Hernandez of Los Angeles, who has decided he likes vacation rental houses and condos better than hotels. Or Robert Bell, a retired airline pilot in Long Beach, Calif., who has been won over by cruises.

“I guess I’ve had my fill of hotel rooms,” said Bell, 73, who’s planning another cruise this fall.

Amid all the distress wrought by the recession, this is also a moment of rare opportunity for consumers confident enough to take vacations. They can take advantage of depressed hotel rates, which are still lower than last year even in the midst of the spring vacation season. Or, like Hernandez and Bell, they can look beyond hotels.

And if they do, will they ever look back? Read the rest of this entry »
